Elysian Log #3 - Eat and Yeet
Hello everyone and welcome to the third Elysian Log! The focus of this month was adding food and combat, which worked out pretty well, so we finally have something that resembles actual gameplay. Anyway, let's take a look at what we have accomplished.
Milestone: Steam Page and Community Wiki
Elysian Eclipse is now officially registered on Steam! While the store page is not live yet, we already set up everything we need to launch the page, when we're ready. This includes tags, screenshots, capsules (the images in your library) and game descriptions. The only thing that's missing is a trailer.
Additionally we set up a community wiki, where everyone can document all there is to know about the game. It is still pretty empty at the moment, but will be filled with some official pages, written by the devs, in the coming months. You can find the wiki here: https://elysian-eclipse.fandom.com
Milestone: New Parts, Stats and UI
Stats are a fundamental system, which almost all other game mechanics depend on. We started by giving creatures health, nutrition and energy values, which you can see on the top left of the new UI. When the health of a creature reaches 0, it dies. Nutrition slowly drains and can be refilled by consuming food. When there's no nutrition left, the creature starts losing health. Energy is required to activate special abilities like attacks or healing.
We added a total of three new parts this month: Pit Eyes, the first type of eyes you'll unlock in the game. Antennae, adding markers to the new minimap on the top right. And most importantly, Pseudopods, that will act as a mouth for cell stage, allowing you to absorb nutrients, as you can see in the video.
Milestone: Combat Prototype
Now that we had a working stat system, it was easy to add attack damage and speed stats to our creatures. We already started working on an enemy AI, but since that isn't finished yet, the video is using a static cube as our attack dummy. We added a flash effect and are showing a health bar + damage numbers, to visualize the taken damage. The "laser" that our cell shoots, is of course also a placeholder for the many types of attacks, we plan to add.
What's coming next for Elysian Eclipse
For the next month of development we want to focus on the following:
- Adding sound effects and music
- Releasing a demo of the editor for content creators and patrons
- New parts and customization options in the editor
- A leveling system for creatures
Thank you for your Support
