Welcome to another Elysian Log! It has been 1 year now, since Elysian Eclipse was announced. It is unbelievable how fast time went by and how much support the project has received in that time. I can't thank you guys enough for all that we have achieved thanks to your help. Especially the patrons, content creators, sound designers and concept artists had a huge impact on the game. Without their help we wouldn't have come this far! This time we really have a lot to cover, since the last update didn't have a corresponding devlog.

Let's get started!

Milestone: Creation Descriptions

You can now enter descriptions for your creations. Since Spore's character limit was pretty restricting, we tripled it for Elysian Eclipse! The descriptions will be shown together with the stats, if you inspect the creation in the archive.

Milestone: Undo / Redo and Complexity Meter

Accidentally deleting or moving parts in the editor was a huge issue until now. But there is no more need to worry about that! With the new undo and redo buttons, you can simply revert changes and try again! There is also a complexity meter now (not in the video), showing you how performance intensive your creation is. It won't prevent you from saving and just acts as a warning.

Milestone: Aquatic Editor and New Parts

The new aquatic editor controls just like the land creature editor, but has a different atmosphere and will also receive its own music in a future update. It offers a total of 7 new parts, meant to create underwater creatures. All of these are based on concept art that was submitted to the "Aquatic Art Contest", that we held on Reddit. Additionally there are also 3 foot parts now. They are only available for land creatures and automatically snap to the end of legs.

Milestone: Aquatic Stage Prototype

Ever since Will Wright showed underwater creatures at the GDC in 2005, it has been one of the most hyped and requested features for Spore, that sadly never made it into the game. But EE is going to have a full aquatic stage, that is planned to have tons of different underwater biomes to explore. Yesterday we released the first preview for it, showing some basic underwater effects and movement in 3D space.

Milestone: Nutrients and Projectiles

The cell stage has been improved slowly but steadily. All microbe mouths have received simple animations. You can absorb different colored nutrients to either restore nutrition or energy, so your microbe doesn't starve to death. Most of the mouths already have a combat ability, which is still useless at the moment. The most noteworthy mouth is the "Spitter", since it shoots a projectile instead of just biting with right click.

Milestone: The  Beach Biome

We did yet another vote on Reddit, to decide what biome will be added next. The beach biome won this time, making it the third biome for lush planets in creature stage. Just like all other terrain in the game, it is completely procedurally generated. The water shader has received a huge overhaul, making the transition to land look way better. These improvements can also be seen in cell stage and the new aquatic prototype.
